Sheela Athreya is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and a Chancellor’s EDGES Fellow at Texas A&M University, specializing in paleoanthropology. She studies hominin evolution in the Middle and Late Pleistocene with a focus on anatomical changes in the skull. She also teaches and publishes on critical issues of voice, representation and colonialism in biological anthropology, specifically with respect to models of human origins. Her current work is an NSF and Wenner-Gren funded project in India studying the evolutionary forces that shaped early Homo sapiens.
